Shane-Summarize
Ranofer is a boy who works at a blacksmith but only cleans and weights gold. Ranofer lives in Thebes. Ranofer's father was Thutra. When Ranofer's father died Ranofer was sent to his half-brother. Ranofer wants to be an apprentice but his half-brother, Gebu, does not wish of it. If Ranofer tried to talk to his half-brother he would be beat. Ranofer is treated differently than his brother is. People think that Ranofer's half-brother protects him. Someone is stealing the gold and Ranofer knows that it was Ibni who was stealing them. My theorie is that Ibni is stealing them so he can give them to Gebu.

Gracie~ Social class Master
Throughout chapter one of The Golden Goblet the social positions within your job are very important they reflect how people treat someone, even if you're the same social status in the civilization. Ranofer is the son Thutra, who was an amazing goldsmith, and who was a friend of Zau the master. Naturally if your ancestor was great at something and left a legacy you are expected to carry it on and fill their shoes. When Ranofer’s father died he had to live with his step brother Gebu who is an evil, conniving, jerk and will not let Ranofer be apprenticed. The social class within the gold house is based on how long one has been there, their reputation, and their skill level. I would compare it to a food chain with the lowest class at the bottom sweeping off work benches and the highest getting more pay and having the most skill. Not only is social class within the city with Pharaohs and slaves but it is within the gold house and where one works.

1.“To Ranofer it was a different world, that city across the river. Here on the western bank was the Thebes he knew, a vast jumble of workshops and laboratories known as the City of the Dead. Its low, mud-brick buildings formed a broad belt between the green fields at the riverside and the strip of desert at the foot of the western cliffs, spreading north almost to the cliffs curve, giving way in the south to high-walled gardens and the villas of rich noblemen, which clustered around the dazzling white pile of Pharaoh's palace.” page 27 There where rich people who lived near the Pharaoh's palace and then there where the poor gold miners north of them and lived farther away. This shows high class and low class.

2.“By Amon, you have grown too toplofty of late, behaving like a Pharaoh instead of the gutter waif you are.” page 36 There are rich people and poor people which shows high class and low class.

3.“ Soon old Marya vanished too. Gebu sold her at a common slave market to pay for funerary arrangements.”page 43 They had slaves, the lowest class of all.

The City of the Dead is a true place. The people that leave there call it "The Cemetery". Since Egypt has extreme temperatures, the people wear black paint to reflect the sun. The City of the Dead is in Cairo.

Ranofer made a plan that involved trusting Heqet. Ranofer decided that he could he could be trusted. So the plan is that Heqet tells Raht that Ibni is stealing the gold and hiding them in the wineskins little by little, and when that is done he give the wineskins to Ranofer, without him knowing it, then delivering it to Gebu. If Raht figures out that Gebu is stealing the gold Gebu will probably be sent to jail which would be great for Ranofer.

Gebu’s happiness lasted a few days. When Ranofer was going onto a nile boat, a bunch of people swept him away. Once he knew what was going on, he saw the ancient one. Ranofer asked him what was he doing there, the old one said that he was there selling the papyrus and heading back home. The ancient also told where he lives, he lives near the desert boardline in a little house he made himself. When the old one left, he thought to himself that he could live in the desert and selling papyrus. When he got to Gebu’s house, he was talking to Ibni. Gebu told Ranofer that he was going to start his apprenticeship at the stone cutting shop the next day. Ranofer pleaded for him to back to the goldsmith’s shop to work on the golden leaves, but he got no response from Gebu.
