Shea-Summarizer: Ranofer is a boy who lives in Thebes, Egypt. He works in a gold shop, but he only makes the liquid gold into ingots. This is not what he wants to do, however. He wants to design the gold into cups or bowls, just like his father did. His father died though, and now Ranofer lives with his half-brother, Gebu. Gebu does not want him to design the gold for some reason. He is also mean, and beats Ranofer.
Recently in the gold shop, people started to realize that some gold was disappearing. Someone within the shop was taking the gold. Ranofer believes it is Ibni, who gives a wineskin to Gebu every week. Ibni makes such a big deal about, telling Ranofer to remind Gebu and to make sure nothing happens to it. Ranofer thinks this is because he hides a bit of gold from the shop in the wineskin. Ranofer wants to tell Rekh, the owner of the shop, but Ranofer has no proof yet.
Sheridan-Researcher: I didn't know what wineskin was so this is what I found.
Wineskins were actually in the bible and not first made in Egypt. I had three resources one of which said it was a gaming portal, then my second resource said it was n animal skin used to hang people but, the last one said that it was a wine holderr made out of animal skins. It ended up being the third one.
Austin-Vocab definer: Crucible, pg 7, With a sigh of satisfaction the boy set stones and crucible aside, and wiped the sweat from his hands upon his cotton kilt. Definition, a ceramic or metal container in which metals or other substances may be melted or subjected to very high temperatures.
Ingot, Pg.7, It was a good ingot; the goldsmith would be able to find no fault with it. Definition, a block of steel, gold, silver, or other metal, typically oblong in that shape
Fathom, Pg.9, No matter- it was unless to try to fathom the ways of the accursed one. Definition, Measure the depth of water.
Annealing, Pg 10, On the bench beside the apprentice lay a coil of wire, finished and ready for its annealing. Definition, heat metal or glass and allow it to cool slowly, in order to remove internal stresses and toughen it.
Rahul-There are a few social classes that I have found in this book. There are the pharaohs, which are the highest class. The pharaohs rule. They are very respected members of society. Next is probably the social class Heqet is in, which is a richer and higher-than-average social class. Then, there is Ranofer class, which I guess is a worker. He belongs to a lower class compared to Heqet. Finally, at the end of the chapter, Ranofer mentions being a slave, which is obviously the lowest class, and he does not want to be a slave.
Sheridan S. vocab definer- debris: scattered fragments, reeds: a tall, slender-leaved grass that lives in marshes
Austin S. Social Class, The Pharoah are the highest of the ranked social class. The apprentices are lower in the middle classes. Ranofer was in a high social class when his father was living and making gold, but since he died now Ranofer will be apart of the second lowest class, and then slaves are the lowest class.

Austin-summarizer, The summary of chapter 4 is that they are making gold and and produce ingots. They were trying to make the gold and Heqet was trying to teach Ranofer how to, then he explained his secret. When Ranofer was making the gold, Heqet told him that he was stealing from the shop. Heqet did not even know that he was stealing until he remembered when he had to take this for several months. He is scared, if Gebu finds out he thinks Gebu will be very mad. Heqet was apologizing for what he id, even though he didn't know what was going wrong.
Rahul-researcher- I researched a sarcophagus. A sarcophagus, which is what they were making at the beginning of the chapter, is a large, stone coffin that is usually above the ground.

Sheridan- summarizer-
I think that the most important part of the chapter is when Ranofer got told that he could no longer work as a goldsmith, but that was at the end. the beginning of the chapter Gebu had anxiety problems and was waiting for his wineskin to finally get done and to receive the money, but Ranofer told on him so I think he knows but is waiting for the right moment to catch him. Another main part is when Ranofer sees the robbers get killed in the city.
